Profiling is the most underrated yet, yet one of the most important parts of artiste projection.
The essence of marketing, branding and team building (which are key part of any artiste engagement) is to project into the mind of the audience. But what if there is an easier route into the mind?
When you become an artiste (when you find a financier and you’re ready to engage the public), your promotion is to promote three things: your name, your face and your content. Irrespective of the money spent, your information starts as a stranger in the mind of the general public and the first question they will ask is “who are you”?
This is because, the world systems are built on validation. This validation enables trust; trait easily secures mental align. And music business relies totally on trust because it is neither a product nor a service at first. So, to keep your brand alive, you need the attention of the mind and trust enables that. This is why profiling is required. It enables the public to easily remember your brand and give you attention. And when your songs are good, profiling enables easy acceptability.
For a verified platform or an already trusted label or artiste; the mind of the audience already validated them, so when you do a featuring with the known artiste or got signed by Sony or appeared on an already verified show, that validation robs on the new artiste. That is why Laycon did not need to introduce himself after winning Big Brother Nigeria.
So, when the audience ask, “who are you”? Wha they mean to ask in most cases are:
Who signed you?
What have you done?
How good are you?
Who have you worked with?
This is because, the mind retains information easily when that information is leveraging on an already existing (verified and trusted) information in the mind. And if you do not have any relatable answer, they begin to listen to you for you (although that might take time) and your first two hits might be the what your profile is built on.
Hey people!!!!!
Good mood and good luck to everyone!!!!!
